Disused 400m outdoor velodrome in New Lynn.
Not to be confused with the Sarawai Park (later known as the Olympic Park Speedway) located in Parnell in what is now known as Newmarket Park.
Olympic Park New Lynn Velodrome, built in 1936, re built 1967 abandoned 1994 because of subsidence in back straight, part of the track was built on reclaimed land fro a rubbish tip. Track is still there 7 meters wide but narrows to 3 meters in subsidence area, potential to be fixed.
New Lynn also built by hand during the depression and only completed during the ’60’s when the Western Springs was under threat,then was uprooted with sewerage pipes being laid under the surface with manhole covers placed on the track surface, then the back straight partially collapsed.
In 2011 bid to have the venue redeveloped, and a Facebook Profile was created to advocate for the venue and some history was shared via it.
