VeloWay has been started as an entity to operate the the cycling ecosystem and is still finding its feet on how to develop the cycling ecosystem from the bottom of the world!

The first person behind VeloWay is Daniel Rickerby.

I grew up in Upper Hutt (Wellington, New Zealand) before shifting to Christchurch to study engineering at the University of Canterbury. I specialised in Mechatronics Engineering and was actively involved in the clubs community. Part of this involved co-founding the technical student club UCHP (University of Canterbury Human Power) to support any student projects to do with human powered projects (cycling is the most common form). This club gave the opportunity for a capstone project developing a human powered land speed racing vehicle (commonly referred to as a streamliner HPV (Human Powered Vehicle, not Human papillomavirus…)). This took form as Project 100 and building a streamlined bike (see future series of posts), this has become a long term project but it drove me into the technical side of cycling and looking at ultimate performance. Knowing that the fastest speed a single person has ridden to under their own power is over 144 km/h, I realised that recumbent cycles are underutilised and the learnings of these speed machines should be bought into the real world.

So from here we will see which way velo’s take us!
